Please compare this with the black and white version in my other

folder. Same scene, diiferent film, different lens. Which do you

prefer? Thanks in advance.

I rated them equally. They're both wonderful and each has its separate charm. The B & W version looks like it could have come from the camera of Ansel Adams, and no doubt if he were taking color, he would take such a color photo as this. ;-)) (Nice compositional balance, by the way)

Interesting feelings about this, John. I very much prefer the B&W version, but at the same time, like the composition of this colour version better. For me, the biggest improvement is the large rock formation at the back having been moved further away from the center of the frame. The light is most definitely more interesting in your other image of this scene, though!

Hi John. I agree with Peter about the composition here. The angle in the B&W version I think is too big. I love the round rock in the foreground here very much, but the sky and the water are bit too purple. ( or is it just my screne?) Regards, Uwe.

I had a look at the ratings for this photo. The 6/6 might be a little high, but the 3/3 is quite amusing, dont you think? Uwe.

Thanks guys. I think I prefer the black and white one too Peter. I have one taken on TMX with the 135mm lens, so that might be the best one to settle on. I'll have to scan it. I went up to Eddystone Point on Friday night after work. I had three 5-6 year olds with me (Jack, Wreck and Destroy), threw them in one tent while I had the other to myself. On Saturday morning I exposed three frames of TMX and eight of colour, the other frames are maybe not as strong as these two, but I'll scan a couple and pop 'em up.

Uwe, your comments came in while I was writing my response to the first three blokes. Thanks for your thoughts. I know I don't possess the ability to detect fine nuances in colour difference the way some can. It looks OK to me, but if there is a purple cast, I apologise. I confess to just clicking "auto-levels".

I've long since stopped being concerned by ratings. I rarely even look at the ratings I've been given. I enjoy and appreciate the comments, but haven't rated others since the great ratings war of '03. I checked out the 3/3 guy and he seems legit. I can imagine to some this would be a boring arrangement of rocks and water, so I appreciate him expressing that opinion by way of a rating, if not in a comment. Cheers,

I really like the near-far perspective. It is enhanced by the fact you chose such different shaped rocks--round vs head and shoulder shaped.

The only negative I see is 2/3 up and on the right. I find those oddly shaped rocks interesting too, but their placement in the frame detracts from the natural steps leading from the foreground to the distance.

I would have tried to go wider or shifted my shooting position to the left a bit, but only you know what tradeoffs were involded. I'm sure there were many.

Over all feel is good in this view, but like others in this string, prefer the B&W for various reasons. We seem to be drawn to different things in this view, here I find being drawn to the rust colour on the big rocks in the background, rather than a more overall feel to the B&W. My mood is diffent as well, in this version, I feel the sun, and water a bit more, but not the strength of the rocks. The sky in this seems cold, whereas the B&W, more neutral, and not really a prime focus point....Water here in Oz is soft and easy on the eyes, in Oregon and BC, almost black, and cold ! Thank you for both views, so nice to see real quality work, with a bit of thought on PN *R*

This is just as awesome as the black and white, I like color so that will sway my vote a little but the workmanship is still there, I like the detail in the rocks the mixture of colors in the rippled water especially the purple. Very Nice! oh yeah 7/7.
