Wayne Melia 5,997 Posted March 19, 2004 ...but I'm not sure how to identify it.Anybody else care to comment? Please and thank you. Link to comment
antares 0 Posted March 19, 2004 Hmmm it is disturbing :-) Somehow it shows the feeling you sometimes get walking off an airplane. Phew - I´m dizzy trying to set it right - very interesting photo! Link to comment
simanta 0 Posted March 19, 2004 Like the alignment..but I would have also thought about aligning the photo to the horizon behind and not to the crosswalk infront.. Overall - Nice. Link to comment
herbert fernandes 0 Posted March 20, 2004 I like the 3 ppl walking.. I think cropping only the 3 ppl and the white stripes would have looked better ( just my opinion) Link to comment
alfreds 0 Posted November 2, 2004 This photo is really great! Because of the simplicity and the framing. The wide view fits here greatly. Great reflections of people in the puddle, and the plane. I think it can rarely be too wide (or far from the subject), but may fail if it is too close. This photo illustrates how the wide works! Congratulation, good work! Link to comment
paul_scott1 0 Posted January 22, 2005 The silhouettes with their shadows are very strong, the number three is always intriguing (just look at how long the Holy Trinity has been going) and you have replaced the necessity of keeping parallel to the horizon by introducing a strong horizontal line in the foreground, which makes the out of balance seem acceptable. Add to this that the line of the silhouettes and the line of the white crosshatching meet at some point out of the picture and that the silhouettes are black and the crosshatching white, and you have some of the reasons why this image works (I think). At any rate, it feels like some portentous event is either just about to happen, or has just happened. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 11, 2006 I like this image. The preceding comments offer much insight into its effect -- something about the three figures on the wet tarmac is deeply compelling. Link to comment
Wayne Melia 5,997 Posted March 27, 2006 Belated thanks for the above comments. I really do appreciate your time to respond with your analysis, because I knew there was something I liked about it, but am regretfully too naive about image structure to be able to identify the specifics. A few good critiques like the above (including the negative!) are worth a multitude of meaningless ones. Cheers Link to comment
toddlaffler 0 Posted April 11, 2007 Wayne, yes there is something about this image! Try cropping off the top to about where the top of the plane (the one on the right hand side) is and I bet you will like it even more. :) Todd Link to comment
Wayne Melia 5,997 Posted April 11, 2007 Thanks Todd; I scrolled to see your suggestion, and I see what you mean, it does look good that way, although losing the tilted horizon also loses the disorientation, but makes it more abstract? Link to comment
kentb2 0 Posted November 20, 2007 Wayne, I agree with the above comments particularly about the composition and the reflective tarmac surface. The painted white line walkway offers a nice foreground base line in contrast to the tension of the horizon which gives the image a strange but compelling tilt overall. Link to comment
Uhooru 2,207 Posted November 2, 2015 I like this photograph too including the tilt. the light and the damp tarmac all give a sense of the weather, creates an impression and a story. Well done! Link to comment
