Something makes me strongly wish you would crop the lower part of this image. Because such cropped proportions would clearly show the image as one of a wall or door (the top half) meeting a floor type surface (the bottom half). But that might be a more boring, though more immediately recognizable, image. The image as you have it has more tension, the tension that makes me want to crop the bottom half. So there you go.

I think this is one of your better photos. I really like the interplay of color, shape, and texture. Very engaging! I agree with the comment to crop a bit off the bottom. I think it would work better if the joint of the two planes did not divide the image precisely into two equal parts.

I have struggled with this one a little bit. If I cut from the bottom I lose both the door handle (which adds at least a little interest) and a lot of the picture (espcially if I try to get to a 1/3 compostion) If I crop from the top I don't think I lose as much except there becomes less color. I'm a little more inclined to crop from the top, but I don't know... Two votes for the bottom so far though. Thanks very much for your comments.

An interesting image with an arrangement that does indeed present some framing challenges. I don't think the handle plays a critical role, although it might draw more attention if there was a bit more space below it. If you can reshoot this, try getting as close to the handle as possible with a wide angle and hyperfocal distance. If that's not an option, I'd crop it off.

great colours and textures tom- the handle is a bit of a distraction but not so much as the off kilter mid points on top and bottom sections - it makes me want to pull the top over a bit to get geometric balance - that would of course defeat the realism and maybe completely spoil the shot - so am back where i started - then again, the more i look at it, the more i think i like it just the way it is!

Carl- This is about an hour away, so I likely will get back there sooner or later. I will try your suggestion. The negative does have a little more space on the bottom, but the lower hinge was more distracting than the handle.

Liv - Yea, it's tough. As if the upper/lower proportions weren't enough of a sticky point, the right/left is also tough to deal with. If you crop from the left the bottom half looks off kilter.

I welcome anyone to play with a crop here. I've not been satisfied with any that I've come up with.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

You need to work on the muted colors. But this is great. I'd keep the cropping like it is.
