peten 0 Posted March 9, 2004 Wet feet for this one John?I like the contrast between the straight deck & hull braces & the curve of the hull ribs.It appears to be massively over-engineered,no wonder it has survived relatively intact after all these years.I have been looking at a map of this coast & it seems to be littered with wrecks--must be a diver's paradise.Pete. peter_daalder 0 Posted March 10, 2004 OK, so most will know by now that photo.net was not a feature on my agenda back in January this year, when this fantastic photo was gracing the front page of the Gallery. Although I travel to most corners of this island, I will admit that I have never taken a chance to visit some of Tasmania's most remote locations. It must have been quite an adventure to get to this place, John! It also would have been rather refreshing to wander into the cool sea after what was probably an extended walk... What I quickly wrote above last time still stands. It appears that some of the other visitors to this image don't appreciate the composition as much as I do. The constant pounding of the waves on the Svenor's ribs is very well captured here. You must have framed this fairly carefully. I like it a lot. Link to comment
mclaine 0 Posted March 10, 2004 Yes, as you've guessed Peter D, this was a brutal trip. Very cruel on the body. Quite satisfying though, to forge a new and interesting route. I'm definitely going back to the Svenor, but I don't ever want to revisit the scrub between Wreck Bay and the Propsting Range. Positively the worst I've ever battled, and I've bashed a fair bit of scrub. This picture actually deserves a joint credit with Matt, we left his Linhof on the back of the beach and shared the P67 for our scramble about the wreck. I was standing on the ledge to the left, just out of frame. We discussed this composition, both seeing the same potential of this view along the internals. I passed the camera to Matt and he quickly exposed two frames of this view. The other neg is probably slightly better, but is Matt's, as we split them, one each. Peter N, you're going to need to extend your trip if you want to get to the Svenor. By about a month! Link to comment
matthew_brain 0 Posted March 10, 2004 No worries though. But you might as well post the other one as well, I think it is better with more texture in the water as it runs back past the frame. Link to comment
dave_nitsche 0 Posted March 10, 2004 Great image. The sharpness and harshness of the rusted metal in conflict with the softness of the water makes me think a bit. Something so soft creating something so harsh. Pretty neat when you think about it. Just a wonderful sense of depth in this image also... Really nice... Dave Link to comment
