Every morning, at sunrise, trainers, jockeys, owners and handicapers

gathere outside "Clockers Corner". Jockeys and agents banter around

trying to procure the best mounts, gamblers try to get the upper

hand and some just try to scratch out a living by "breezing

horses". A jockey (and not just necessarily the ones who make it to

race day, get paid around $10 to risk there lives running at 40

miles per hour on an unpredictable animal. No insurance or

guarantees if they fall. It's a tough job but it makes for

wonderful images.

Hi, I'm a rider, like the ones in your pics. Just wanted to say that I'm impressed that you know a little information on what is going on. That you know they are getting 10/horse and that there is real danger involved. I've been on the track watching photographers (not all of them, but a few) that don't have a clue about the horses. I've seen them do crazy things that upset the horse, and then want to photograph the horse try to launch the rider. Good luck with it. Your knowledge of what you're photographing will make your photography all the better.
