Well... I understand that the fact that this pic is associated with a tribute to women can lead to controversy... But we would need to know you more (personaly) to judge if it is appropriate or not. But if we take the photo for what it is, I think it is interesting. The use of the curves and the leading diagonal are interesting, and the curves of the lips, I guess, are used to "complete" this. Of course it's revealing, but it's used with respect to my eye... But I understand that others may be shocked. It depends, I suppose, how we feel "at our ease" with our human body... There is sexuality and nudity, and you're driving on the edge between both... I guess you are used to comments like the previous anyway. The women's body used to captivate men, and always will...

dropped by as was intreagued by a comment i noticed in alexis folder on a tribute to iwd shot ... good greif ... i can see his point now ...lol.

fwiw ... am not offended just a little sad that you felt this was a fitting tribute (i guess we have a lot farther to go)

... after a quick run through your folder i would suggest this one. i see it got mixed reviews but i feel it is more in the theme of showing a women in a confident and strong role rather than just focussing a snippet of anatomy - your protrait TYA_000001 was very tempting too, her expression and arm posture makes it a thought provoking shot.

It's amazing how many of you male personalities that play so tough really know so little about women. This has nothing to do with the 'vagina'. The vagina is what is inside and you cannot see it without a doctor's spatule. For those that have never seen a woman, this is the vulva and what is visible are the labia majora and the labia minora. Nice picture.

Oh my god!!! It is amazing how ppl still get offended by sexual images... As it is, this is image is interesting, it could be anything... it is a portrait... and believe me, most women... are proud of having a vagina... and they do celebrate having it...

Ignoring the content for a moment; I feel this is an excellent piece of art: It makes people talk. It enflames emotion, goes against the grain of some people. Controversy is often good, like a democratic opposition-party for the mind.

As a footnote, is it really so wrong? It almost certainly was not exploitatively shot. We no longer live in a victorian society...

Between the historic repression of women and the exploitation of women are things like education, self-determination, comparable pay issues, etc.; things usually associated with March 8th. The above is a technically competent picture that doesn't offend or impress me. Associating it with March 8th is just, well, clueless. Go ahead, flame me too.

My dear visitors,
I thank everybody for your opinions. I knew that to some of you this photograph would seem offending in the context of March 8th. However, I would also be interested to know, how many of you did personally congratulate women you know on that day?
After having spent 20 years of my life in the former USSR, the cultural context of March 8th transformed into a celebration of femeninity, rather than a political holiday. Men would give flowers and gifts to women, women would feel most feminine and celebrated.
The general reason of problematic acceptance of this image is due to a difference in perception of the subject of this photograph by men and by women. "Vagina Monologues" would speak to that.

This image was created as a symbolic celebration of femininity and hence presented on that special day of March 8th.

I think this is a lovely photo and nice gesture on the photographers part to post it as a tribute to IWD. It shows his ability to think freely without the confines of political correctness.

Its funny how everyone noticed vagina (even though its not photographed at all), vulva, labia majora, and labia minora and somehow not a single word about Gluteus Maximus, which covers almost a half of the photo. :)

Or is that "vulva" smiling?

It looks to me like no "vulvas" where harmed in the taking of this photo. It's a nice picture of what may arguably be the most feminine part of a woman's body. I see nothing indecent or immoral here (my opinion of course). Personally, I wouldnt feel comfortable hanging political innuendo on this fine, yet revealing, portrayal of, what to me, screams femininity.

If you are celebrating feminity, this is fine. If you have any interest or understanding of what the feminist movement was/is all about, then this is a mockery. I will assume you are too young to have lived through the late sixties and early seventies when a lot of people had their consciousness raised.

I must say, all the bickering back and forth has far surpassed my interest in the picture. It's great reading...

I'm not offended, just intrigued that so many men are so fascinated by the female sex organ, as evidenced by the masses of photos. Being a woman and a photographer, I am wondering, exactly how did you take this? It seems a little unrealistic that there should be an open area this size in the peritoneal area, especially with her legs obviously crossed, unless the model was extremely anorexic. You've made the female sex organ look rather masculine, dangling down like a male scrotum and testes. A bit unrealistic. I do envey the girl her butt! LOL, no southern drift there. So, in the end, I am not offended by looking at this image, I am offended that it is so unrealistic, another example of why little girls grow up so dissatisfied with their bodies. After being bombarded with unrealistic images like this, the average little girl thinks she's fat and undesireable. So if you feel the urge to improve upon something, make it something you obviously have more knowledge of, the penis. At least with that subject, woman could get a good chuckle.

It was very fascinating to read the above discussion. I have only one question: if women fought so long to broaden minds of the society to allow their equality, how could somebody be so narrow-mindedly offended by this wordless note from men "we still remember that you are women"? And that behind equal salaries, equal positions, equal rights, equal etc. - that behind all that, "we still remember that you possess a different, unique, special kind of nature."

Is this the same kind of narrow-minded offense, which turned this country excessively puritanic and, as a result, excessively obsessed with sex - not with love and admiration of feminine beauty, but with getting laid and nailing a chick? Is this the same kind of narrow-minded offense, which for decades of feminist movement labeled natural breast-feeding as "animal-like" and "degrading", resulting in generations of babies lacking natural support of maternal milk for their immune system and creating people with problems in metabolism? Then yes!!!! Horay to feminism, which went a long way to make women and men to forget that women ARE different, that women can do much more than men can - they can give a birth. And then down with this photo!!!

Vagina. When a man loves femininity in his woman, he kisses her vagina saying that she is beautiful. When man affraids of femininity in his woman, he tells her to cover herself and abuses her - physically, verbally or mentally. A good suggestion - read "Vagina Monologues", read what vaginas have to scream about in these days of flourishing feminism, which was brandished here by some like a battle flag, accusing photographer in indiscretion and little understanding.

Personally, I love this work very much - I believe it depicts feminine nature for what it is: fragile, gentle, beautful, open and yet mysteriously covered at the same time.

Alexis : I looked at your site. Your way of portrayal the nudity is hidden, covered, or veiled. I am not sure that you are as free in your mind about it as you wish it to sound.

Jayme: This photo is natural and realistic. I saw the actual negative - this woman is just the way she is. :)) Just all women different.

My best regards to everybody.

Personally,I believe that this photograph is very well done because its light tones lend the feeling of morning innocence to the whole image. Very soft lighting without any harsh shadows makes it weightless giving the sense of an artistic, non-perverse observation, of a study of a beautiful form.

This is too long of a discussion. Anyway, I will be brief. I believe that the following statements are true:

1. While men and women may have the same rights, they still are different.

2. Sex organs do define (and cause) a difference between men and women.

3. If as was mentioned above "In ancient Greece, Lysistrata initiated a sexual strike against men in order to end war" then power or women may be represented by the image of their sex organ.

4. There is no disgrace intended by the imagery in NU_000046. This photograph is an attempt to portray the feminine sex organ in a very gentle and sublime way.

5. I see IWD as not only a celebration of women's rights, but also as a celebration of feminine nature.

6. NU_000046 is also a reminder to those women who do behave like men, while forgetting their feminine nature that yet they are Women.

7. Perception of this image is expected to be controversial as imagery of the sex organ is too powerful to not to cause a reflection in the viewer's mind, even considering broad variety in cultural and intellectual backgrounds of the audience

>At this point I wish to all of my visitors to come to peace. I truly hope that my work can deliver you a message and enjoyment, just remember that it is always intended with clean and pure heart.
