macro umbrella

I like the this picture a lot mainly because of the color and

pattern. But are the lines too messy? too confusing to the eye?

Knowing it's an umbrella kinda ruined it for me (I looked at the name last). It wasn't too busy or confusing to me, until I started trying to fill in the remaining umbrella shape at the angle you chose. Funny, but I'd just not call it "umbrella" and leave it just like it is. A very nice shot.

A very nice point of view on this subject. I think it would have benefited from more DOF considereing that there is no distracting background. Excellent view of the intersecting lines though.

I _really_ like the composition and the idea, too. I agree with the comment about more DOF, or at least I'm curious to see a version like that.

 

But what I really suggest trying is playing with the light. I like the tone, but it's a bit muted throughout -- try putting the light just on the background or just on the ribs (or whatever you call the structure). Or maybe one color on the background, a different one on the subject....? Cheers.

I should have experimented with more DOF, but with out the luxury of a tripod and being that this was indoors, I didn't have much of a choice. But, I'll got back and try it again. This time with a tripod.

I figured people wouldn't know what it was and by telling them it's an umbrella, they would think, "oh, that's an interesting perspective of an umbrella."

That's precisely what I thought after I saw the name... so, job well done. :)
