Arctic Tundra Grizzly - BW

aepelbacher

Adjusted, cropped, removed grain, converted to BW in Photoshop CS. Do you like the BW or the color version better?

I think I like the bw version better. It has a more emphatic feeling. Perhaps try playing around with burning in to emphasize the bear more, it could be very dramatic. Cheers! ER

works better. The frames are maybe little heavy; the color one is good without those. BR, Ilkka

I vote for the b&w. But can you hear the grizzly? "OK I'm out of here. The moose gets both profiles and a glamour shot and she tries to palm ME off with a b&w conversion. I may only be a bear BUT I'VE GOT RIGHTS!"

See, Colin ... I used the same lens for the moose and for the bear ... and allowed myself to get MUCH closer to the moose. This PROVES that I'm careful when I do wildlife shooting!! :-)

I prefer the b&w version...lends itself more to the feel of a stark and isolated land....

I too prefer the BW version. It is more harsh and the pipeline absolutely adds .. makes it much more interesting. Well composed.

Nice composition ...... and I prefer the b&w version.

I've also found that you can get the bear to look at you if you stuff your pockets with bacon ...... (-;

this is a great street capture. you know what? tho oil company's should buy this image as proof that they can build their pipelines in harmony with nature. how could those greenpeace folks counter-argue this? well done if harmony is your theme. well done anyway.

Lou Ann, Remarks to Colin: "this PROVES I'm careful..." Like a stressed (read 'pissed off') moose won't do you harm? :) A fine composition (position of bear in the frame) here & I like the B&W version best. Cropping out the pipeline gives it a more remote feeling but your's is probably a truer representation. I'd probably risk the shot also but I'd never take my eyes off the bear. Best, LM.

Yeah, Len ... but the moose didn't LOOK pissed off, did she? ;-) THIS shot was taken just before the bear turned to come toward us (at which point I DID jump back into the tour van......)
