There should be a way to delete these things, and improve them and not lose all of your comments. Again, he looks like he is getting up a "Feather Ball" or the leftovers from last nights fish dinner ? Smiles again @^;*R*

I think he was actually trying to cough up a feather ball or something, but I did get lucky, Donna.

I can't tell, and don't know much about the anatomy of these birds, but with herons, they're usually plagued with leeches. Maybe he's just freaked out by a missed dinner creeping up his bill instead of winding up in his tummy! Great shot, Kim!

Here's a closer-up picture. This was part of his bill. Other pelicans I've taken pictures of don't seem to have this little flap.
