alecee 0 Posted February 29, 2004 The temples at Angkor are spread out over some 40 miles around the village of Siem Reap, about 192 miles from the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh. They were built between the eighth and 13th centuries and range from single towers made of bricks to vast stone temple complexes. There are two main sites where the Khmer temples are located. The first is at Roluos which is about 10 miles south east of today's village of Siem Reap, where only a few of the earlier temples were built. This was the first Khmer capital in the Angkor area. In the late ninth century, Yasovarman I moved the capital to the immediate vicinity of Siem Reap. This is a much larger site, where the majority of the Khmer temples are located. It is officially known as the City of Angkor. There are other temples located in the area, some up to 20 miles away from Siem Reap. Khmer temples can also be found in many other parts of Cambodia, as well as China, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. Tourism is still relatively new here so the monks are more friendly. Their second language in school is English or French. Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted February 29, 2004 Too bad Patrick. Angkor Wat has been the most unique place for me where I beleive I have taken the most photos at one outing! As you can see I am still milking my collection. I missed some areas there like Ta Phrom where the trees grow out from the monuments so I'll probably go back again when I visit Myammar. alecee 0 Posted March 1, 2004 With you two masters approving this image you have made my day! Thank you very, very much. I enjoyed myself tremendously there running around like a madman looking for the next opportunity! This image is particularly dear to me because they are so casual. It looks like a posed shot but it is definitely not! They were resting in that position, I smiled, composed and Viola! I will submit another image today "Following The Way", which I feel have the essence to evoke sentiments. Hopefully by sharing you will all be 'touched' like me. Link to comment
