That kind of smoke is fog, isn't it? I think that the tree in the foreground makes all the Photo. It´s real good with a tigher crop too, with the tree in the midle

I was dissapointed in the lack of sharpness as well. The big lens was mounted on a tripod in zero wind but perhaps the shutter speed was too close to 1/15 s where mirror slap can cause vibration problems. I will have to watch out for that in the future.

I don't mind the crop, I'll have to give it some thought since the effect of the mist seems more noticeable in the rest of the image.
