of the woman's outfit and the dried coconut leaves with the greenfields is interesting. I see

another angle here when taken a little bit higher

perhaps the pathway will be interesting too.

Gonna pick one and work on it...From the thumbnail, I could smell digital.. a great invention but still under development, compromised and losing u the following..natural colors, and color saturation, clarity and with it dimension, the ability to clearly delineate what is sunlit and what is not...the brilliance of sunlit parts.. having said that, digital works well at night, and with spectacular sun, preferably back lighting aka jaymaisel.com..It also DOESNT work for black and white, again, as clarity is lost, so that it misses out fine gradations and details, that give dimesion and life..Now all this is if u want to take spectacular photos that wow stupid guys like me who give shitty critiques.. So on to this photo. earthy shot, needs much less sky. ie man crops, earth, water. You can safely tilt down the camera to the tops of his carried crop leaves or simply crop it off right there...Do that now with a piece of white board and u see the subject jump out at u. Dynamics is good, but could be better by using slightly slower shutter... imagine a blur in his legs...movement..The rest of the composition is balanced, with the forest on the right towards which he heads, and the flat area behind from where he came.. Now if we assume that this is NOT RE shot right into the sun, but shot with agfa ultra 100, and a good optic, say a prime, even a new tamron, which I have tried, after my Leica stuff got nicked, or the ultimate, a zeiss, then u would have gotten..Clouds with clear shadings giving depth, character, and dimension..The sky, a lush blue without a polariser. Brilliant sunlit parts of the person and the crops he carries, and dark shadows of the not sunlit parts, giving depth dimension, balance and drama... The crops on the left, rice?? would be brilliant green on top, and every stem visible. OR.... if u had shot into the sun, and the sun came right through the crops he carried, LOW SUN needed of course, you would have had an extra ordinary shot, with your digits..For more ideas on landscape composition and play of light also go to photos4u.dk, who shoots with zeiss.fuji, zeiss and schneider being the kings of color, and ..some used zeiss primes are not that expensive, U dont need f 1.4 or 1.8, f2.8 is quite enough for yr type of work... Have a look at those two sites 2000 plus shots for many weeks and get the feeling HOW they compose and use light. Ive been fiddling with photography as a minor hobby, always take the equipment, type of hobby, but after working these sites for many weeks with open mind, I tried a few new new feeling shots. About the picture, it does look a bit flat. Chemical companies have known how to formulate things that digital folks can and should probably learn to emulate. Try curves and local contrast enhancement.

The Canon G2 is a 4-megapixel camera. If T.Turk would do his homework a little bit instead of blabbering at the keyboard about technical nonsense not relevant to the posted image and being a bit more openminded and less egotistical he would accept the picture for what it is, namely an excellent exposure that is difficult to preplan. BTW his netsite doesn't work and he appears to lack the fortitude to show his own on photo.net.

It captures the essence of life in rural India. However, a bit more depth of field would add a deeper meaning to its message.

I think these shots look better when you get down to the level of tip of the paddy plants and use your tele. Probably, it would have been better if the woman had been on the left of the frame.I like these types of photographs.But for that you have to go out to the rural Tamilnadu!

 

There was a picture of a "nanga" child in your portfolio, have you deleted it?

Yes, i agree with you on that, i seem to lose out in most places by shutter lag and AF speed, guess i need to beg borrow or steal a SLR now ;). As for the nanga child, yes i deleted it because lots of my friends said it could be misused on the net :)

Pradeep, do not let your talent get shackled up with G2 any further. Go and grab a dslr. Just that with the body and the system of lenses ,the punch may not be in the tune of Lucky Ali..!
