Focus on left

donsorsa

The third roll of film I developed, and scanned with a new Epson 3170. Developed with Diafine, first time I used it. I screwed up the developing and had to crop the image. Posted to get feedback on developing and scanning. I focused on the person on the left instead of the middle - I dunno why, trying to avoid the obvious.

Stephane - Yeah good point. I'm trying a crop but then I end up cropping the knee or including part of a shoe. In any case, if anyone has feedback on developing or exposure, that would help me a lot. Maybe I just have to start from scratch. I'll upload a cropped version so the composition doesn't distract from the other points I'm trying to learn about. Thanks.

Don,

What are your agitation intervals? The photo looks a little blotchy to me, i.e. the door handle, the face of the man in center, the area above the guy on the left. Also, when I develop my film on the lower end of the allowable temperature range I sometimes get this appearance, so I usually warm the solutions up towards the upper end.

Richard -

Blotchy, yes that's part of the problem. I followed the Diaphane directions and gently agitated for 5 seconds at the beginning and then again at one minute intervals. Does the blotchyness (good word) indicate inadequate agitation or too much? Some folks somewhere in these threads said Diaphane doesn't work with this film, so that might also be part of the problem. Thanks very much for sharing your time and expertise.

Don,

I can't comment on the Diafine, but Kodak puts development info on the inside of their boxes of T-Max, so you may find it on the inside of the TXP. I agitate 5 seconds every 30 seconds with T-Max and have seen that as a recommended interval. I have not seen 5 seconds every minute. If you have another roll of the TXP, you might try agitation every 30 seconds; also, check to see if the developing info is printed on the inside of the box if you have not already looked.

Richard - I'll try what you suggest and post the result, good or bad. Thanks. BTW, glad to hear you escaped buying a new car.

Geez, someone gives me 2/2 with no comments. I suppose I should feel blessed that such an accomplished artist lowered himself to rate my miserable work.
