This photograph of the arrest of a demonstrator was taken in 1972

during the trial of the Rev Philip Berrigan and other anti-war

activists on charges of conspiring to blow up utility lines in

Washington, DC.

Took 32 years to get it it scanned?

This was obviously taken a long time ago. It's a decent shot.

Bill this is a really great shot in the classic reportage style. Excellent composition, good exposure, great expressions, especially the Cop( like a cat with a canary) the pushy reporter is cool too!

People with their modern AF and auto exposure cameras have no idea how difficult it is to get a sharp and correctly exposed pic under these conditions, with a manual focus and manual exposure 35 mm SLR. Especially while you are running backwards and hand focusing at the same time, while keeping clear of the Cop and trying to keep from tripping over something behind you. This is one of the best real life images I have seen on this site!

Stuart, thanks so much for your kind comments--and for taking time to look through and rate photos in my portfolio. The 60s and early 70s were an interesting--to say the least--time for photojournalism. I'll be posting more "action" images in the coming weeks: there's still a lot of material in my files, much of it published in news venues at the time but not seen since. Looking at the stuff is like time-traveling. Incidentally, the cameras were Leica rangefinders--I'm sure I was zone-focused when I grabbed the above shot. But you're correct: it was always a challenge to get a decent image in such circumstances. Sometimes I got lucky. Cheers, Bill
