i love the joy on the womans face, and i love the awe on the childs face. The glow from the candles onto the childs face tells a story, like its her day she's in the spotlight... but its acctually about the mother in the background enjoying her daughter growing up. and its a very nice effect

This is a very natural looking shot. The control of lighting is excellent and yet there is a spontaneous feel about the photo. The quality of the picture suggests it was staged but the feeling of the image suggests it is not.

 

I hope you get my meaning. This is a good shot.

The lighting on the girl's face worked out very well. The cake looks a little blown out, but that's minor because you have captured two pleasing expressions.

...very good IMHO.
