you are a lucky so and so! Right down to the matching splashes of green on their clothing and the brown pass and the brown of their skin and the banana stick on her head - it all echoes and balances each other out. Great composition, nice diagonal - you even got eye contact!!!

Vikram / Amanda, Lucky? I don't think so.........you will have passed by it without even noticing this opportunity if you see my actual image before I cropped it. Judge for yourself the downsized unretouched scene. Do you still think it was a lucky shot? I actually missed this in my collection and only after reviewing it now I saw the potential. Imagination plays a very important part, don't you think? So please look at the attached image and I will appreciate all other views and comments as well.

Interesting object. Nice composition. But, lighting is flat, and contrast is low. Might be better if you shoot early morning or in the afternoon with warm side light

Hi Kristupa, you are Indonesian I presume. Unfortunately when I was in Lombok the weather was not sunny and I have to make do with this shot.

Agree with Kristupa..A strong warm morning or evening side light throwing shadows to the right would have made this better..but...as the lighting was flat, why not tilt the camera down OR do a vertical shot and get the reflections in their entirety. That would also have made a superb shot. I bet the reflections in the still water were wonderful. Did u notice them??

Hi Thomas, I guess you didn't open the original padifields shot. The day was cloudy and uninteresting. Only after I check through my images again - then I saw the potential with this crop. Look at the sky and surroundings! I have to adjust levels to get the desired saturation with no other manipulations. Anyone disagree?

I understand your message.. What I was trying to say, is that to have made this one a strict and clear composition, I would have shot the reflections as well as the two ladies walking along, just as they appear on the cropped shot. By having cropped down to this, u must have seen the rest of the pix was 'untidy'.. As it now is, it lacks..the reflections..to make it more interesting and balanced. They are now cut off. This is what you have to 'see' before u raise the camera, and confirm it in the finder, with minor position adjustments, before shooting. Being an 'action' shot gives u some excuse, as u had les time to think about the composition....as you would have with flowers, landscapes, old boats etc...If u imagine u r going to shoot a slide without being able to crop later, u will become more critical of yr compositions..U may miss a few shots, but the ones u get will be super..That is what I try to do..As a result, I just shoot negs, Fuji Reala Superia, get them developed, and then just have them blown up. Only manipulation is the UV filter, and all that necassary thinking and messing around before taking the shot..

I like the way you captured this shot. But you missed to take another one including the women's shadows or did you take that too? Gauging by their shadows it's high noon, right? I like the wide angle shot better than this.It gives me the feeling of vastness or an open range quality. This is nice, almost a primitive setting. The rice seedlings

looks great too. This kind of shot is what I looked for when I go somewhere. Thanks for posting.

Thomas / Sally :

When I saw them walking along the padifield I jump out of the car and quickly took this shot. No time really for composition and I'm glad I captured this image before they walk pass. I have another image with their reflections in the foreground. Please check it out in my portfolio.

Very good shot, Alec, and the crop do work good! just pity for the woman looking at you, but it's not possible to have everything.

By the way, I don't live in Cuba, but I would like to spend there more time...

I'd have been mighty pleased to capture this, and appreciate the difficulty of such a shot (the lighting being very strong in Asia, this looks very well exposed to me). And I'm also glad to see that I'm not the only photographer around who uses massive cropping when necessary. For me it's the finished thing that counts - and this is excellent. Very green, full of growth.

I'd be interested to know the resolution of the original as the much-cropped-image looks very sharp.

Thanks Dominique,

I have seen your excellent works. This image is made with the F505V with 3.3 megapixels. Sony cameras handle quite well if you have steady hands

The diagonal line both leads in and out of the the photo. The girls are therefore have entered the area and you as the observer feel that they will rightly exit very soon. However the background, greatly exposed, is static -- years and perhaphs ages old fields. In that never changing background, a moment in the life of the villagers been caught. Beautiful photo..
