navarra 0 Posted January 25, 2004 Believe it or not, this is almost what I got from my camera. By saturating and adding contrast I got the different shades of color to stand out. Simone Link to comment
ljk 0 Posted January 25, 2004 Wow. I love it. The repetition of shapes defined by texture and color is amazing. Link to comment
navarra 0 Posted January 26, 2004 I'm glad you like this. It feels quite weird after looking at it for some time. Thousands of people pass every day in the same spot where I shot this, so I suppose there should be other almost identical pictures. Next time I go there I'll try to get all columns, but I don't think it's possible. Simone Link to comment
root 0 Posted January 26, 2004 I'd like to see the original. What's really bizarre about this is that you can't tell whether you're coming or going. By that I mean that if you start from the dark element on the left, it appears that the elements are receding into the background. Yet you get the same impression starting from the right! hanna_cowpe 0 Posted January 26, 2004 In the thumbnail, I thought it was a stand of birch trees. I see what Carl means, and I find if I squint, some pillars recede and some move forward. The brain's a tricky thing isn't it. I think I might like one step to the right, to include more of the far right pillar and exclude the leaning edge on the left. Just feeling picky today. Great hues and tones though. Link to comment
navarra 0 Posted January 27, 2004 I'm posting the original image. I have in-camera parameters set to low contrast/saturation/sharpness and the light was pretty bad. What you see is 2 rows of columns and a wall on the left. Some are closer and some are less close (can't find the word here :) to the camera but they are really mixed so there is not a real "direction". Thanks! Simone Link to comment
havanai 0 Posted January 27, 2004 This is okay, but to me, it needs another element...a person, maybe silhouetted, or another architectural feature, or a ray of light, something. Link to comment
terry_mccully 0 Posted January 27, 2004 I think this makes a fantastic looking abstract here.. also try this one in B&W Link to comment
navarra 0 Posted January 27, 2004 Kurt: I agree, usually pictures with people in them have more depth. In this case, I just saw the pattern and took the pictures without thinking. Terry: Thanks for the positive comment. I like B&W pictures but I'm having an hard time getting digital conversions that I like. Simone Link to comment
al_gee 0 Posted January 28, 2004 i say that, because you wonder what these columns have seen. what secrets do they know? it is as if they are standing.. watching, and whispering amongst themselves. this shot has a great feel to it. well done. A. Link to comment
louise bridge 0 Posted January 29, 2004 Yes, I appreciate Al's comment. Also, I too thought it was birch trunks on first regarding the thumbnail. That's what I thought witty about it--birches are not exactly the most long-lasting, strong or sturdy trees where I come from. Link to comment
yahia_shawkat 0 Posted April 22, 2004 I really admire this shot, though entering it in the "Architecture" folder gives the game away a bit, why not post it, among others, in a "Abstract" folder of sorts, that way allowing the mind more space to admire your shots? Link to comment
