Yes, sir, the foreground ice is definitely for real. In fact, the picture does absolutely NO justice to the absolutely amazing BLUES in the ice as your eye would see it!

Great shot Lou Ann! The colour is amazing. Is that the full colour version or have you selectively removed the background colour? (And btw what sort of frame do you call that?:-)

Colin - the colors are as is ... the background really was THAT dull ... the foreground THAT amazing. :-) And ... the "frame" is a "drop shadow" ... thank you for the sarcasm, LOL!! :-D

Excellent shot, Lou Ann! Hard to believe (but I do, of course) that these are the true colors how this scene appeared - it looks as though desaturation and sepia toning were applied to the background. You seem to be gradually unreeling the spools of your Alaskan tour shots - hope you are posting more soon.

Lou Ann, this is very well done. Wish there was a hint as to the scale which must have been immense! - regards, Gary

Hi Lou Ann, in the interest of learning, I was wondering if you'd mind briefly outlining the extent of your "adjusting" in PS for me. Cheers!

One of the best photos that I have seen in Photonet, if not the best. Congratulations!

WOW! Thank you SO much to everyone for these amazingly positive ratings and comments. I have to say, honestly, that I almost didn't upload this because I don't REALLY like it ... but it's the contrast of colors that kept pulling me back to it. Can someone PLEASE explain to me what is so good about this shot? I'm being serious here! Thanks!!

@Andrew Grant - It's funny that you should ask about what I mean by "adjusting" in PS. I am very new to PS. I JUST got the upgraded version ... had been using an old "Limited Edition" which didn't do much. Since getting the new "CS" version, I am slowly working through some of the tutorials that come with it. Mostly, what I do is this: create an "adjustment layer" in the "levels" category, and then I move sliders around until the picture looks good (really ... just guess and test!) Then, sometimes I'll use the "Image" and "Adjustments" settings (brightness, contrast, etc.) doing the same ... moving sliders around until the picture looks nice.

There ... my secret is out ... I don't know what in the world I'm doing with PS. LOL!! Thanks for outting me, Andrew! :-)

@ Gary - the perspective was amazing. We watched another boat about the same size as ours that was "braver" and went closer to the bergs and to the face of the glacier. Those things were astoundingly huge!! I can't even describe them!

Thanks again to all!!

You never can tell what will grab the ratings! The way it struck me was first the colour then the almost abstract composition and finally the background provided a jolt when the scale became apparent. There are probably not that many iceberg shots on PN either:-)

There is a lot to say about this photo. The texture and colors in the iceberg are very well captured. These stand out very well against almost contrastless mountain side. The fact that you place the subject in the lower part of the image (rather then placing it in the dead center) add the composition of the image. Also subject matter is rather unique as we don't see many shot of icebergs posted on the photo.net

Lou Ann, I quickly clicked on this photo b/c it said Alaska to me right away. After seeing your name and photos occasionally here, I was suprised to see an image of Alaska from you (dont you have photos of New York...home town)? I was even more suprised to see an image of LeConte Bay, where I have done some kayaking. Awesome place, as I am sure you will agree. Happy for you that you made it up this way.

Although I think this is a nice photo (say, a 6 for originality and 5 for looks), I also am suprised by the feedback and ratings (please, no offense)....but it just goes to show you that different photos grab people in different ways. Nice job

It's the blue color that catches your eye - you think immediately PS work, but then you realize it's the actual color of the iceberg. It contrasts so nicely with the "blah" background that it DOES look like a combination of effects. Pretty cool image.
