Christian, great guess on the exposure. A wonderful portrait that forces ones eyes to the subject. My first impression is that I'd like to have the dark space in front of the subject instead of behind him. Any comment on this observation? Best, LM.

Len -- Appreciate the comment. Would have preferred the dark space in front of him as well, but there wasn't any; he was facing a crowded table in the tiny ship's galley, and the space behind him was the only one without anyone else in it.

Good skin tones and good focus. Nice use of lighting to decouple the subject from the background. All in all a very competitent photo.

This is a really striking image. I like it a lot, because it's different. Most people would (and did) say that the amount of black on the left side of the frame was too much, but it's this factor that draws me to look at this image, because it's not typical composition.
