Lights and shadows

wakeforce

This is the only shot I like of me... I like the strong shadows and highlights. It was taken with the self-timer :P Had nothing to do and posed myself. A a bit of Pshopping: removed background, made the skin a litlle better. Removing the background was hard because of the hair but I managed to do it.

This was an auto-portrait of myself, I don,t remeber at all how I

had set up the lights on this shot but I realy think it gave a nice

effect... This is the only picture I like of myself... Comments?

Darn it! My first thought was to ask about the lighting you chose. Whatever you did, I like the effect. It is very softening and also brings out features well. Nicely done! :)

I Like the lighting. Wondering how many photos you took to get this - pressing the shutter, running under the lights and trying to position yourself - not easy.

ahah thanks for the comments... I think there was only and overhead lamp and I had shut dowen my 2 main lights, but I'm not quite sure... There are some small spots on top of my backdrop and I think I had only used this... I'll try and see if it's this (I'll do a few test shots tonight)

Thanks for the comments!

Oh and I took about 30 pictures but only 2 or 3 got out all right... Lot's of them are not focused well or just plain suck because I'm not a good model :P

Hope you enjoy PT, Jean-Philippe. This is a pretty decent self-portrait, except that the lights are a bit too hot, and your point of focus should be on the face (eyes) and not on the T-shirt. Hard to pull off a really good self-portrait, though.

Thanks for the constructiev comment, I appreciate it =)

Altough you are right, I think you are also fooled by a little bit of photoshop tinkering, I removed some imperfections on my face using the dust and cratches filter...

I agree with Niranjn, Jean-Phillipe; a second light source would make nicer shadows, and using the manual focus would help getting a better focus IMHO.

I also think maual focus with a distance scale would work better now (got used to an old manual focus caera now, and I love it!) But there is no distance scale on either of my EOS lenses...

As for the second light soruce, I don't remember well but if I do I had another one, but I'm not positive about that. I'll see all of that on my photography classes next semester anyway (I can't wait!)
