Montreal at dusk

wakeforce

Shot at iso 200, f/8 and 1-2 secs exposure. Normally I would have done this sort of shot at iso 100, but it was SO cold that I was hurrying like hell... In fact, it was something around -40C with the wind factor, and I didnt feel my hands anymore, so I hurried up... This resulted (as I tought_ to a "little" shaky pictures... They are very good still, (I think) and the high res version is fabulous! (You can see SO much detail!) If you want the high res version, I can send it to you if you want (but I'll put a watermark ;))I really should go back to this place when it's warmer than it was, because I really was suffering... Normally I would've set up my tripod carefully and took my time, but I took these shots in under 5 mins because I was freezing too much... Hope you still ike it!(And if you don't at least show some respect at me for braving the cold! ;P)PS job: Unsharp mask + curves. No cropping. (Maybe should... lotsa sky there... what do you think?)

I've frozen my ass off in almost arctic weather and almost lost

fingers doing it to shoot this, so at least leave a small comment!

Thanks!

You must have one skinny ass now! :)

I love your photo. It was worth your suffering to get this shot. I wish you had taken this using a tripod but, oh well. Next time. I might would crop a little off the top and give it a nice frame. The evening sky is lovely for miles as we can clearly thanks to your skill.

Well done!

Thansk a lot for the comment, and I DID use a tripod, but I was going so fast that it trembled a little on about all my shots! And I couldn't put it the way I wanted (one leg on the small wall that you don't see and the 2 others on the ground) because my hands would've fallen off! But I'll go back in the summer and take a full evening to shoot it at different states, that'll be great!

Thanks again!

Like the shot. As far as the sky, I like the wide expanse - it's a different view than your typical cityscape.

When I shoot photos on tripod, I usually use the self-timer to prevent camera shake. However, as far as the cold, when I shot photos on the top of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire, the cold temperature (-10 F) and wind chill factor (-75 F) really prevents you from taking your time - I think it is a survival reflex. Anyway, good work under very adverse conditions.

Yeah, that must've been painful... But if you have good eqipment (hot and thin gloves) and not just cheap cotton gloves, it surely is better! Anyway, -75F is pretty bad though, that's like ARCTIC weather!

What stops this from being cliche is A) that wonderful cool overtone, and B) the vast area devoted to sky. I like it!

Thanks =) Actually, it's one of my favorite pictures to date (I've got it printed 8*10 right in front of me)
