Greenjay Neutralized

kslonaker

Changed background to B&W just because I like this effect. I thought this bird was naturally framed by branches.

I changed the background to B&W just because I like that effect - it

seems to give more attention to the bird, especially when the

background is a little busy. Comments?

Thanks for the comments and ratings. I'll probably be using this effect in more of my bird pictures - very useful when the background just isn't quite right!

Wonderful job. Really pulls out the color on the bird, and you did an excellent job with focus, color saturation, and framing. Wonderful.

The color and the detail are very good. The bg and the branch are nice too. I may wish there is a little more space between the head of the bird and the top branch. :)

Pnina, they are just outside my front porch, believe it or not! I can actually just sit on a chair and wait (and wait and wait) and they will come land in the trees if I'm really lucky. We have a house in the trees (stilt home, 8' up).

Michael, here's what it looked like "before". A different cropping so you can see a bit different view. The background actually was already pretty neutral. Thanks for all the comments!

I have tried to get a shot of the many birds that inhabit my area, but I just can't time it right. You have done a wonderful job with this bird. Greenjay? I never even knew there was such a species. It looks like it may be all green, but it was out for a masquerade and wore a bluejay head just for fun. Well done!

Jeff, I had only seen these at a distance last year, but am so lucky this year to get the chance to shoot them up close! It's the birdseed, I swear! :) Thanks, Linda and Elizabeth, for stopping by and commenting.

Kim, an Audubon moment! I love the separation of foreground from background, yet retaining the bird's recognizable natural habitat. This bird practically posed for you! A well done photograph.

Thank you all for taking the time to comment. More than ratings, I like to "hear" if something appeals to you. I AM very curious as to why [Z felt he/she had to rate this so much lower than everyone else though. This is definitely a case where a comment would help me a great deal understanding what people are looking for in a photo.

I had heard of a greenjay (as of last year only), but had never seen one up close and didn't realize they were so striking. Last year, they were only at a distance and you couldn't tell how pretty they are! They also have a very distinctive squawk and I feel like some days they are calling me to come and take more pictures. :)
