bradkim 8 Posted January 2, 2004 Branches and background do go very well with the subject... Beautiful image!!! Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 2, 2004 Thanks, Brad - I've been very lucky with these birds this year! Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 2, 2004 I changed the background to B&W just because I like that effect - it seems to give more attention to the bird, especially when the background is a little busy. Comments? Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 2, 2004 Thanks for the comments and ratings. I'll probably be using this effect in more of my bird pictures - very useful when the background just isn't quite right! Link to comment
jennifercatron 9 Posted January 2, 2004 Wonderful job. Really pulls out the color on the bird, and you did an excellent job with focus, color saturation, and framing. Wonderful. Link to comment
kyang 0 Posted January 2, 2004 The color and the detail are very good. The bg and the branch are nice too. I may wish there is a little more space between the head of the bird and the top branch. :) Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted January 2, 2004 Kim, where do you find all these beauties? I love your birds photos. Pnina Evental Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 2, 2004 Pnina, they are just outside my front porch, believe it or not! I can actually just sit on a chair and wait (and wait and wait) and they will come land in the trees if I'm really lucky. We have a house in the trees (stilt home, 8' up). Link to comment
doctrine 0 Posted January 3, 2004 I like the bw background. cropping a bit too right imho, but still excellent :) Link to comment
miller1 0 Posted January 3, 2004 I really like this look Kim. I agree , the bird really stands out this way. What a beautiful bird.6/7 He looks kind of tropical. Regards,,Elizabeth Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 3, 2004 Michael, here's what it looked like "before". A different cropping so you can see a bit different view. The background actually was already pretty neutral. Thanks for all the comments! Link to comment
jeff d 1 Posted January 3, 2004 I have tried to get a shot of the many birds that inhabit my area, but I just can't time it right. You have done a wonderful job with this bird. Greenjay? I never even knew there was such a species. It looks like it may be all green, but it was out for a masquerade and wore a bluejay head just for fun. Well done! Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 3, 2004 Jeff, I had only seen these at a distance last year, but am so lucky this year to get the chance to shoot them up close! It's the birdseed, I swear! :) Thanks, Linda and Elizabeth, for stopping by and commenting. Link to comment
thomas_collins1 0 Posted January 3, 2004 Kim, an Audubon moment! I love the separation of foreground from background, yet retaining the bird's recognizable natural habitat. This bird practically posed for you! A well done photograph. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 3, 2004 Thank you all for taking the time to comment. More than ratings, I like to "hear" if something appeals to you. I AM very curious as to why [Z felt he/she had to rate this so much lower than everyone else though. This is definitely a case where a comment would help me a great deal understanding what people are looking for in a photo. Link to comment
mark_staunton 0 Posted January 3, 2004 Prior to seeing this I'd never even heard of a greenjay so this is a double treat. What a great photo! Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 3, 2004 I had heard of a greenjay (as of last year only), but had never seen one up close and didn't realize they were so striking. Last year, they were only at a distance and you couldn't tell how pretty they are! They also have a very distinctive squawk and I feel like some days they are calling me to come and take more pictures. :) Link to comment
