michael_kubota 0 Posted December 31, 2003 When I look at the rotated version, it reminds me of lying on the lawn in a park. Very relaxing. It's hard to tell which way is up, especially in the landscape view. What a neat technique! Very nice. Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted December 31, 2003 When I refer to 90 degrees, I am not talking about the heat! I like this photo. (Not unusual! I like most of the photos I upload!) However, when I rotated it through 90 degrees, this was the result. Does it appeal to you. Comments / Critiques and ratings welcome on this or any of my photographs. Link to comment
relaymod 3 Posted January 1, 2004 beautiful! immediately caught my eye. the vertical version looks more dramatic to me and I like it better. the horizontal version would be better if the sun was even more off-center. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 21, 2004 Hi David, it occured to me that it was unfair of me to ask you to elaborate and then not return the courtesy in justification of my comments on this photo... When I critique a photo I ask myself questions like "What draws me into the picture" and "what keeps me there or guides my eye around"... this sort of thing works very differently for different people. In this case, the obvious focal point is the sun. But after that, the nature of the silhouette is such that perspective along the branch/trunk from upper left is lost. As a result, I see an interesting silhouette of a tree, but my attention is not held much past that. This is what made my own sun/tree photo worthwhile for me - you're lead into the focal point by the sun's rays and then the absence of rays in the left half of the photo leaves you looking around the tangled network of branches. But, I can also see the numerous negatives in that photo as well - which you pretty much hit right on in your critique. What I DO like about your photo here is the way the cloud at bottom right balances out the sun and tree - that's brilliant. I also like the texture in the leaf 'clusters'. Thanks again for your critique of my photos... I appreciate those types of comments the most - I'd much rather have someone with a solid portfolio tell me exactly what the weaknesses are with the photo's aesthetic than mess around with "oooh's" and "ahhh's" and "isn't that nice"!
