Norwich Cathedral

colin carron

Windows are very bright and choir stalls are barely visible. Used a 1905 camera with 1950's lens. Verticals corrected by camera movements.

Taken on a very old 5x4 camera. This photo took a fair amount of PS to get the contrast to where it is. I like it though. What do you think?

Great depth to this composition. I like the lighting and don't mind the dark recesses - adds mystery and mood to the image.

Drew - yes that works too. But on balance I like the windows! Cropping makes the composition too static for my taste. (Which is also why I did not straighten it all up).

Drew, Kim's comment about mood and mystery hits the nail on the head. This photo is not just about architecture or aesthetics but about faith. Blinding certainties, deep darkness and uneasy and inexplicable things happening at the edges. So I'm sorry to offend your sensibilities but for me the windows have to stay. regards Colin

the cropped version looks a bit to common. i go for the more mistic full size, your old camera offered you, respect the nice 4x5 size. mike

Colin, I like your photo as is, the windows give the photo balance.
