Tower, Rocky Butte

This was shot on a plastic, Holga camera, then toned to look like a mix of copper and sepia toner in PS.

Last of the Holga shots--comments, ratings appreciated on toning and

composition. For those of you not familiar with Holgas, they are

plastic cameras (including plastic lenses). This shot was toned and

cropped in PS. Thanks.

This is perfect. If anything, I guess I wish it was desaturated a little bit, just a bit less orange. It wouldn't make it any better or worse though, thats just taste.

Also, though I understand the idea of replicating a framed photo with this style of border, I just don't think it works. No matter what we do to our digitized, cpu viewable photos, they will never look like they do when printed, framed, and viewed in person. I don't know if you give a shit, but my preference would be to present it with the thin black border, if any, and allow the viewer to concentrate on the image.

I'd also like to say that I am happy to have found yet another person on this site doing interesting things who I have not seen before. There are few, and finding them in the sea of ugh is tough! cheers

I disagree, the frame gives the image the proper context. I also disagree about the number of great photographers on this site for that matter, I think there are tons.

Sarah, Kelly, Max--thanks for commenting on the photo.

Kelly, I agree with your two suggestions: 1) in retrospect, this tone is too over-the-top--it should be desaturated some. I'm planning to print this in the wet darkroom and will "tone" down the toning. 2) The framing probably does come off as overkill, and perhaps pretentious. This is how I display the photos in galleries and at home, but it doesn't really work with these Holga shots. I've just uploaded another Holga image with an improved (I hope) frame. Thanks for the helpful input and the kind words.

Robert this is excellent. It's strong, direct and works wonderfully well.

Congratulations on producing a superb folio.

Robert, I understand the look you are going for with these frames, and I don't think its pretentious. Distracting and unneccessary, yes, but not pretentious.

Anyway, is this how close you would fit this photo into a frame were you to hang it on a gallery wall? How about the rest of your uploads using the same technique? To me, there is just not enough empty space separating the image from the frame. I like the breathing room. cheers.

Gary, thanks for the comment. You really have a fine portfolio of work.

Kelly, this frame is similar to what my stuff gets hung in, but the mattes are quite a bit wider--I usually frame an 8x12 in a 16x20 frame. I've tried a few different ways to frame my work on-line and I'm happy with none of them. Thanks for your comments.

Walker, thanks for your comment. While I have toned things this color in the darkroom, you're probably right that this should be done more subtly.
