dennisdixson 0 Posted December 13, 2003 I'm always a pushover for a well observed abstract. The screen version looks a bit soft or out of focus on the left side and is distracting (to me anyway). I think this might be more powerful in a square format with the vertical element placed off-center. The color is good but I'm not sure how I feel about the two holes because they seem to draw too much attention in the current rectangular crop. Link to comment
palmi 0 Posted December 30, 2003 I realy like the abstract image and the colors, but I kind of agree with the square format suggestion. Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted July 16, 2004 Dont know why others rate this one lower? This is well spooted / well captured detail. Link to comment
seven 0 Posted January 27, 2006 These colours combine well. You've chosen to place the vertical more or less where I would have - so I like that aspect. The eyes do tend to hover around the 2 holes and the thick line of white paint, however, there's also some good texture above the left hand hole.I would always capture something like this fully in focus unless I shot at some weird side on angle to emphasise distance - by having the focus fall off. I don't think you've made the most of the texture offered, Walter. If this were all in focus and sharp one would really be able to sense - at a tactile level - the cuts and grooves laid down by the years. I would usually introduce shadow zones through burning to obtain greater contrast; sometimes - while set up - I 'arrange' shadows making use of the Sun (preferably) or whatever light source; it's more rewarding doing everything in camera I suppose. However, that's just something I do and not really relevant to the image before us.In summing up, I think this image does a good job of reminding the viewer the beauty in the simple things we so often take for granted.
