Jen Selwa 0 Posted December 10, 2003 Hi Steve! Perfect reflection and fantastic lighting. Your whole Canadian Rockies folder makes me want to go to Banff in the worst way...great capture! Link to comment
kevin_kolosky 2 Posted December 10, 2003 too bad you didn't have a ladder. the foreground is distracting and perhaps if you would have been a bit higher up you could have cropped that out. otherwise very nice. Link to comment
stevemarcus 0 Posted December 10, 2003 Thanks for the comments, everyone. Kevin, whether one considers the grass in the foreground to be distracting or not is a matter of personal preference. In other words, this is an opinion, rather than absolute fact, as you have perhaps unintentionally suggested. I happen to like the grass in the foreground, but I appreciate the fact that others, such as yourself, might not. IMO, a scene such as this requires a foreground element. If the grass in the foreground was as bright as the trees in the middle part of the scene, then IMO, this would be a distraction. Fortunately, since the photo was taken at sunrise, this was not a problem. Link to comment
crabseye 0 Posted December 10, 2003 it makes you want to weep. Thanks for capturing it and sharing it. Link to comment
stevemarcus 0 Posted December 10, 2003 Honestly speaking, your comment made me think back on how I felt during the hour or so that I spent photographing Vermillion Lakes on this crystal clear morning in July. I believe that seeing its beauty did indeed bring tears of appreciative joy to my eyes. Thanks for helping me remember this feeling. Link to comment
dave_k1 0 Posted December 10, 2003 Beautiful Image..Outstanding reflection, colors and composition!!! Well Done. Link to comment
jpw 0 Posted December 11, 2003 Great photograph. Beautiful! The quality of the digital file is quite poor, however. Don't know how the scan turned out, but my guess is that you used too much compression when you saved the JPEG file. That's how it looks anyway, based on the sky in particular.Jay Philip Williams Photographic Design Link to comment
stevemarcus 0 Posted December 11, 2003 Jay (or anyone else who perceives this upload to be of poor quality), could you please elaborate on what aspect of this picture looks poor on your monitor? Also, are you referring to the large version of the upload, the medium version, or both? On my monitor, which I've tried to calibrate very carefully, the large version looks very good. It would appear from the ratings and comments that it also looks good on the monitors of other viewers as well. Thank you very much for taking the time to comment! Link to comment
alberto.conde 0 Posted December 11, 2003 I don't agree with Kevin. IMHO the whiff of foreground anchor the image to the real ground and make it subtly elegant and less boresome. Link to comment
stevemarcus 0 Posted December 12, 2003 Jay, upon checking this photo upload on my home computer tonight, I noticed the JPEG artifacts that you were probably referring to. I created a new, less compressed JPEG file and this seems to have solved the problem. Thanks for pointing it out. Link to comment
andrew_dessert 0 Posted December 12, 2003 Looks good to me. I like having the grass present in the picture. It leads me to the reflection. Link to comment
WJT 609 Posted December 12, 2003 Great job with the composition; the dark grass is essential for the dimensional effect. Nice photograph! Regards. Link to comment

stevemarcus 0 Posted December 20, 2003 Thanks for the compliments, everyone. Ricardo, "IMO" is the acronym for "In My Opinion". Cheers, Link to comment
indonesian photo 0 Posted February 28, 2004 Really beautiful one. The reflection has deeper color than the real image. Perhaps too strong density filter? Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted May 2, 2004 I have mixed opinions on the grass in the foreground. On one hand I agree that one does need a foreground, and this is mostly seen on the right half of the picture. On the other hand the grass which comes too close to the reflection of the mountain, is somehow detracting. With a little bit of blue sky reflected between the grass and the left hand peak, I would have liked it more. It should really have been beautiful to come out of the tent before sunrise, on such a day, prepare for the shot and then see it over and over at home... Link to comment
