Grand River Elms

LenMarriott

f11 - f8 Auto exposure (about 1/500)Hand held (supported on bridge railing)at about 200mm. These long dead sentinels won't be around for too many more seasons. Thought I'd best capture them now than be sorry later. Best, LM.

Nice shot, Len ... I like the simplicity! (By the way ... do you live in/near Fergus? I grew up in Buffalo, and am a little familiar with southern Ontario....)

Lou Ann, Thanks, I like simple. Sophisticated, complex, multitasking, gives me headaches:) I live about 2 hrs from here. Usually go for two or three days a year with fisherman brother-in-law who likes to close out the brown trout season. (end of Sep) Best, LM.

Simple and effective composition. I like the layered look to this. One tree wouldn't have worked as well, but this grouping does. Nice work!

Nicely composed LM. You know by now that I like color. But this one just calls out to be converted to B&W. Here is a quick version. Actually I like this both ways . Nice work!

Vincent, Before I post a photo I usually look at it an number of ways including B&W. I didn't do that with this one (too busy trying to dig out muted colours I guess) Who would have guessed it would be Mr. LSD pre-soak who dug out this B&W gem:) Thanks for the different viewpoint. Demonstrates the beauty of PN's diversity of experience. Best, LM.

This is a realy nice and natural composition. i like the natural curv of the picture that leads to these trees that have a lot of character in this empty field.

Len,

It is simple, elegant, unconfused. Very well done. I like the fact that you avoided centering the images.

I spotted these trees the year before but, under heavy overcast

conditions, decided against investing a frame or two. Now I wish I

had taken the shot. Would have been an interesting comparison.

Best, LM.

As of Oct. 2005 these dead elm trees no longer exist. I hear they succumbed to a windstorm earlier that year. Imagine the scene without them and you'll understand why I didn't bother trying for an updated shot. Best, LM.

Since I originally posted this one I got a film scanner & redid this post. Here are the results from the original negative via a Minolta Dimage Scan Dual ll. I think the original scan was a 1hr lab cheapie or a flatbed scan of an original 4x6 print. Best, LM
