keaggy220 0 Posted November 30, 2003 My grandfather passed away in 1990. He was a few months short of 80 years old. One day while we were driving passed this barn he mentioned to me that he helped build it when he was a teenager. I've been meaning to take a photo of it for a couple of years. The shot started out very sharp and I decided (like other photos in my portfolio) to treat it to a little softness. I know sharp is in, but I like the look that softness gives an image. Thanks for looking and if you choose to critique you will probably notice that I'll leave a critique for you in the very near future. Link to comment

john_kanon 0 Posted November 30, 2003 This photo is stunning. Even the thumbnail already grabbed my attention. It's composition is great, lighting is great, and I think you made a very good choice in pulling it through Photoshop. It really stands out now! Link to comment
paulglenn 0 Posted November 30, 2003 This has such an exquisite and elegant feel to it. Almost looks like a very fine painting. (had to go read your comments to see) Excellent work with editing software! Link to comment
peta 0 Posted November 30, 2003 Matthew, a wonderful tribute to your grandfather, who I'm sure would love this. I think the added softness is just right. Thank you for commenting on my latest. I appreciate that very much. Link to comment

jos_vanpoederooyen 0 Posted December 1, 2003 The softening almost makes the image feel like it is coming out of someones memory...perhaps yours...you have made the photo feel as you spoke of its story, very good congruency. Thanks for sharing your techniques too. Link to comment
vrankin 1,339 Posted December 2, 2003 Matthew: As a resident of Iowa I've been photographing barns for years, and never realized what softening could do for them. This gave your photo an ethereal quality. Many of the great barns are now only in our memories. Thank you for a personalized documentation of a place that was probably significant for many people. Jen Selwa 0 Posted December 2, 2003 This is lovely. I also like how you softened it up. It looks like a painting. And also as the family genealogist, I know what significance this must have to you. Beautiful! Link to comment

the grey house 0 Posted December 3, 2003 Matthew, a beautiful image and very nice story to go with it - a very fitting tribute. The softness works to emphasise the structure. Very nice composition, lighting. Wonderful photography... Link to comment
karen_roberts1 0 Posted December 3, 2003 Lovely shot. the composition is nice and I like the photoshop enhancements. Gives a surreal quality and knowing the story behind it, the softnees is appropriate. karen Link to comment
karen_roberts1 0 Posted December 3, 2003 I wondered if a bit of a trim on the left would enhance this photo? Just curious Link to comment
jeffrey moore 0 Posted December 3, 2003 Man, that's a nice barn; never seen one quite like that. I've also never seen a photo of a barn (one of my favorite photo subjects) quite like this either. I think your choice to use the softness suits this image very well. The lighting at the time of day you made this is very nice. Terrific photograph! Link to comment
john_knauf 0 Posted December 7, 2003 I love what you have done with this image. May I ask where this barn is? I also live in Virginia and would love to see it first hand. Link to comment
david_cassidy2 0 Posted September 19, 2004 This is an exquisite image. The softness is perfect. A very moving creation. Nicely done. Link to comment
karen habbestad 0 Posted November 8, 2004 lovely. while i like very much the copper and silver tones of the barn the purplish sky is putting me off a bit. i think the b&w version works better for me. which is odd really, because i like color ;-) Link to comment
