This picture is special to me because it show love even though

povery is all around. It was taken in the ruins of Angkor Wat,

Cambodia where I chance upon this girl and her brother. Due to the

bright contrast in lighting I only soften the window light with

gaussian blur in this picture.

You have many beautiful photos and your interest in color and saturation is obvious, but this is my favorite of your collection because of the painterly quality and lyricism of the subject. It has an impressionistic quality that matches the subject.

Hi Alec this is one of favorite pictues of yours a tighter zoom would show more detail in the girls face but it would ruin your lovely compositon. I think you made the right choice I like the framing you have used. O-5 A-6

nice job keep clickin

Take good care

Alec, I am surprised I missed viewing this until now, or at least I think I missed this one. But I'm thankful I saw this today.

Feel pride to use PhotoShop's digital darkroom to bring out the best in your work. Ansel Adams certainly felt that way and did so in his wet darkroom.

Thanks Gary for your kind comments. Your portfolio of pictures are very well composed and the colors are really fantastic. I've learnt a lot ever since I started being a member of Photo.net and visiting great photographers website like yours. I'm still learning and hopefully I can get better day by day. I believe knowing how to compose and take a great shot is only part of the equation for the new generation digital photographer. Now we can have the fun of post processing digital pictures the way we really wanted it to be seen. Isn't it great how technology has improved? However I'm still a believer of going out and getting the "great shot" rather than creating a digitally manipulated picture from the computer.

Alec, first I honestly must say I looked at all you photos, your color, lighting and composition are absolutely wonderful. You have an "artistic eye" not a photo journalistic eye. Of all your photos this is my favorite. I disagree about more clarity, The softness lends to the emotion between the subjects. The only thing I might do is crop in a little of the foreground, only because it is interesting too. Maybe too interesting and I feel detracts from the subjects. But this is just my opinion. I hope you don't mind but it's easier to show than tell so I have attached what I played with in P/S. I definately give this one a strong 7/7. This one looks like an artist's rendering. Don't let anyone kid you, Your potential as a photographic artist is a sure thing.

Another beautiful one Alec, nice texture in the rock and the lovely glow coming thro the portal gives this image an ethereal aspect. Very well composed compassionate image.

The background is a bit over-blured IMO. I just wonder how it would look without the blur-filter. regards,

Hi Adrian / Dominique, thanks for your comments. The original is actually attached to the Sepia version in this folder. However here it is again.

I like composition on this image and bluring the detail in window helps to bring focus back to the girl's eyes. It's almost that you bring their sould into their pictures.

They seem to be the gods here. They have the power to be beautiful. Perfect composition. And as you, I am also a believer of going out and getting the "great shot" rather than creating a digitally manipulated picture from the computer, as you have stated. Even the manipulation was also beautiful I would also prefer honesty. To me photography is a honest form of art - showing us how we are. A medium to study what we miss here and now.

I like an original with any change. It is breading, it is speakable, a very nice childish motive, with a good composition frame and lighting. Ed
