I prefer the horizontal version. Seems to lend itself better to the rays flowing across the image. I might crop it a little from the bottom and right but not much. I wonder how it might look in B&W as well. Shots where color is not a dominate part of the image often look better as B&W's in my experience.

Len, I agree with Ken's coments on the horizontal, but I would be more apt to hang the colour one on my wall. It's probably just my taste. I'm not usually drawn to B&W's. They are all lovely pictures, however, and again something I hope to catch one day.

Enlighten me with your wisdom! Please comment on how to get better

shots of this nature. What would have been your approach/technique?

We are all here to learn, let's do some. Best, LM.

Thats a great picture!! Personally, I would not touch it in anyway. I always like color to black and white. I guess in black and white photos it always seems that its an attempt to escape from reality. (Wierd I know!)

But thats just me and my opinion is my own. I am sure to get flamed from others but each to his own hey?

Again, I think the colour is nicer. Regardless, this is a fantastic shot. you were either very lucky, or very patient. I am jealous!

Vernon, Guess I'll have to plead luck. I was wandering around Tea Lake waiting for the morning mist to clear a bit, humidity was very high, & this scene presented itself to me. "f8 & be there". Took a vertical & horizontal shot & went back to the lake. Best, LM.

I envy you! I have been looking to take a shot like this, and you got it. the composition is wonderful. The contrast is great. Luck does have something to do with it... but you chose to be there at the right time... good for you.

The original is just beautiful the way it is.  I love how you got the sun's rays fanning out that way...  or is that like "Close Encounters?"

Thanks for taking the time to dig this oldie out and for your thoughtful comment.  This was taken near Tea Lake in Algonquin Park at first light.  I was waiting for the thick fog to lift to enable shots of the lake but when I turned around this scene presented itself to me.  Serendipity!   Best, LM.
