Hello Colin, when I used to go climbing, I read about the N face of the Eiger all the time, but never got anywhere near it.

It's fascinating to see a modern photo, global warming seems to have made substantial reductions in the amount of ice on the face.

When the sun comes round, it lights up the face, a bit and you can get a good view of the "White Spider", the V shape at the top.

Excellent work. Best wishes. Pete

Thanks Peter. I don't know how this compares with times past but the shot was taken in mid-late summer. We walked to Kleine Scheidegg on a warm day that did not require our coats at 6000 feet. I just marvel that anyone could climb that lot and when ice is added.....

Colin, there is a very good book by Harrer called the White Spider, very well illustrated, which describes the first ascent. Well worth reading. Regards. Peter

Thanks for that, Peter. I like that sort of story. My son bought me the book on the recent quest to discover what happened to Mallory & Irving and my wife gave me a book on Shackleton (amazing photos by Frank Hurley). They can probably see the frustrated explorer in me!
