gregverena 343 Posted January 3, 2022 excellent again - are you finding a difference between the 7d and the R5? Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted January 3, 2022 Thanks Greg & Verena! The different between the R5 and the 7D II is quite apparent. Getting a shot like this with the R5 is child's play and with the 7D II it takes 'muscle', LOL! Jokes aside, part of what I said there is the truth since the R5 is very light , agile and the focus just snap to the eyes of the bird and you just press the button. I would say the R5 is like an automobile with auto transmission! On the other hand, the 7D II is like my good old 302 Mustang with a 5 speed stick shift. You got to know when to press the gas pedal & clutch (only when the focus seems right) and hold steady while panning along tracking the bird. From there, you can tell it's a lot simpler to drive an R5 and it takes a bit of a chore to drive the 7D II but some of us like to drive stick shift :-) . No, not really but at this point that's the only drive I have - along with the Olympus. Between the 2 of them, I think I do just fine for a while more. After all, I am still getting all the shots that I want/desire. Link to comment
vincentoiseau 83 Posted January 4, 2022 Hi TmJ, outstanding photo! Your 302 Mustang is still working fine:) It also has a lot to do with the fact that you're so familiar with the 7D II and the 500 mm; you know exactly what you're doing. Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted January 5, 2022 Thanks Vincent! LOL, I drive a Lexus ES330 nowaday and I sure miss my 302 Mustang convertible. So, shooting with this Canon 7D Mark II + Canon EF 500mm F4 IS will give me the ride that I miss for sure. People rants and raves about new tech ( new cameras .. ect) but the joy of life is to squeeze the most out of what you got is my belief. Anybody with a bit of money can buy the top equipment but not everyone can get the top shot regardless of equipment. Especially in wildlife photography! Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted January 5, 2022 Vincent, I also want to say that (after seeing an awesome series of shots from a top gun with an A1) that there is no way to catch such quality series without eye tracking focus, lol! Link to comment
