Pandemonium! It's a wild word out there ..

Grazie mille Giangiorgio! I got lucky there and caught about 30 shots like this. What happened was I was shooting some other birds at high ISO and then this fish mugging (they were mugging the Cormorants who are excellent fisher) happen. No time to change ISO (too slow) and I just rolled the dial to close down the f-stop and the EV (I was shooting in AV mode). The f-stop was F11 and I always have to cut the EV (exposure value) down to -2.7 or so for white birds. Voila, at 18fps .. and I hold that button aiming at one of the egret. After a couple seconds I ended up with around 30 shots of relatively sharp birds (of course the one I aimed at is very sharp, LOL). This was shot at 400mm which is 800mm in 35mm format and as you already mentioned ... I was pleasantly surprise that I got most of the birds sharp (against that dark/under-exposed background). Nothing like being lucky! :-)

what an unbelievably good capture! All the gulls and egrets are in focus and you managed to keep detail in their white plumage as well! Good job! Kind regards, Vincent

Thanks Vincent! Yes, I was very lucky such that I had to f-stop down enough and lucky that the birds line up somewhat within the Depth-of-Field. At 800mm , the DOF is not that think. Also, I am lucky that it's all white birds and I did not have to think twice about cutting down the EV to -2.7 to get the white correcdtly exposed.
