tm_j 30 Posted November 12, 2021 Thanks Gregory & Verena! Yes, with that tiny fish it's hard to show. The fish wiggle a lot and I only got this one shot that shows the fish well. The rest of the shots are not usable. Link to comment
Giangiorgio Crisponi 454 Posted November 12, 2021 The series of these very nice recent photos of yours show the good qualities of your new equipment that does not make you regret the previous Canon , ciao Giangiorgio Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted November 12, 2021 Grazie mille Giangiorgio! I still have not sold off my Canon yet but once I got the Canon equipment clean up I will. I've just joined Canon Professional Services again so that I can get 20% off the services :-) - I am relatively happy with this Olympus OMD-EM1 Mark II + M.zuiko 100-400mm (and the MC-14 extender)since I think I can get 95% of shots that I used to get. The last 5% I have to wait till Mr Olympus (or JIP the new owner) poach a few Sony, Canon or Nikon engineer and improve the focusing speed. However, for the price that I paid for this Olympus setup verses the imgages that I get then it's pocket changes compares to other setup or my old Canon setup. It's not perfect but it's good enough for me and will be great for travel also (as you can see the images I gotat the Los Angeles County Art Museum of the Urban Light). Very light, nimble and versaltile system and even though I am at least 15+ years younger than you, I am not getting any younger to keep holding that 12lbs Canon either :-) Link to comment
vincentoiseau 83 Posted November 12, 2021 Hi TmJ, I'm glad to see that you're shooting photos like this one with an affordable Oly setup and get many shots like you used to with your Canon. The 100-400 looks like a very capable lens and I'm sure you'll make a lot of magnificent photos with it. I like the crop you present here; the focus is on the beak and the fish of course, but the plumage is beautifully detailed. Well done! Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted November 13, 2021 Thank you Vincent! After I got married, I stopped shooting for a while till my only child (son) arrived in the year 2000. That's when I got into digital camera to record images of my son growing up. My first 'big' digital camera was an Olympus E-410 with 2 kit lenses and then I bought a zuiko 75-300mm to shoot birds in 2008 (I am a life long Canon guy since 1975, btw). I have certain asperation with/for Olympus and here I am about to dump my Canon setup soon. It is just amazing (to me) to get these images with $1400 (that's the end cost of this Olympus OMD-EM1 Mark II + M.zuiko 100-400mm lens) . Amazing times! Of course, I can get better image (easier) with a more expensive setup but I've read somewhere before : 'it's more fun to run fast with a Volkswagen than to run fast with a Ferrari' , LOL! This 'Volkswagen' works for me! Link to comment
