Hooded crow - (Corvus cornix). This year a hooded crow nestled on a holm oak in the backyard. This photo was taken from my window on the day of the birth of 5 crows. They are still featherless and with their eyes still closed, but hunger is great and they beg for food. Since I can't go around taking pictures due to Covid, I will follow the growth of these chicks this month. Nikon D850, Sigma supertele 300-800mm, f / 7.1, 1/1250, ISO 1000. Thanks for your comments

Giangiorgio, this is a fascinating photo for a variety of reasons. We have a murder of crows that has visited us daily for nearly10 years and we have seen the family grow over those years. But, we have never seen where the nests are even though we know the nests are close by our home. I have tried many times to get shots of the crows as they feed from our deck and have had very little success in getting a worthy shot despite many attempts. The entire Corvid family is fascinating, intelligent and worth ovserving. Another beautiful shot by you. Thanks, Dana

Terrific shot, Giangiorgio! I hope all the babies survive. Looking forward to more pictures, as they grow, and then learn to fly. Michael

Dana, thank you for your much appreciated comment. Sometimes luck helps, it is the first time that these crows have nested in the backyard and that the nest is right in front of my window with no branches in front, I will follow the growth of these chicks up to fledging in the coming weeks, cioa Giangiorgio

Michael , many thanks for your visit and kind comment. I will definitely follow your advice and document the growth of these chicks until they leave the nest. I hope they all survive, even if in my neighborhood for some years they have been very numerous and intrusive , ciao Giangiorgio

Hi Giangiorgio,

hooded crows are rare in my country, if we get to see them they are probably winter guests. Nature seems to have rewarded you for your beautiful work with this photographic opportunity, which I'm sure you will take advantage of the way you usually and brilliantly do. I'm looking forward to seeing these little ones grow and take to the sky. This is a great photo to start the series off, with five hungry beaks to fill. Kind regards, Vincent

Vincent, I will definitely showcase the future development of these chicks. Even here in the city, crows were rare until about ten years ago, they were introduced with the aim of reducing the number of pigeons, very numerous, because they preyed on their eggs and nestlings. Now it's the other way around, fewer pigeons but many crows, very intrusive and very intelligent who live very well in the city. Thanks for your continued support , ciao Giangiorgio
