Mermaid

Explaining some natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural beings such as mermaids comes from the early history of seafaring people, this is my take on it.

For me there seems to be a reversal of relationships, where the HagFish/ Sailor is answering the plea for help from the beautiful hand (mermaid?) with “Go to Hell”. Maybe it's a variant of the Frankenstien complex (if you don’t love me I’ll make you hate me), or in this case if you don’t think I’m beautiful I’ll hate beauty. I have no idea what Flipper is doing. Anyway, if Grimm had seen this, it would have inspired another fairy tale.
