Giangiorgio Crisponi 461 Posted August 4, 2020 Beautiful all the shots of your recent series of this cormorant that tries to catch the shrimp. did he manage to eat it? ciao Giangiorgio Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted August 4, 2020 Grazie Mille Giangiorgio! Good to hear from you, actually, this one is a Pied-bill Grebe (small bird about the size of a fist). I've seen him caught a Crayfish a couple week back and hope to get lucky again to get a better shot and ... voila! Not ideal since I sort of under-exposed him but manage to save the image with adjustment (I shoot JPG and there's not much room for adjustment, btw). - https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Pied-billed_Grebe/id Link to comment
Giangiorgio Crisponi 461 Posted August 4, 2020 At first glance I thought of a cormorant but looking better I was wrong. Thank you TMJ for your clarifications, and for introducing me to this interesting bird not present in our country. ciao Giangiorgio Link to comment
tm_j 30 Posted August 4, 2020 Signor Giangiorgio Crisponi , you make me feel .. so bless since we have a decent number, variety of birds here in Southern California. This one seems to be around everywhere I go. Not in large number since they don't live in colony. I enjoy shooting this bird and the one shot that I want to get of this bird is of the chicks on their back. I've heard of that behavior (like the Western Grebe) but have never seen it because these bird are more reclusive and they only have the chicks on their back a very short time ( a few days, I heard).
