bernath 2 Posted April 17, 2020 Several European legends explain why the robin (Erithacus rubecula) has a red breast. a) He burned it in the fires of hell bringing water to lost souls; b) it was stained with the blood of Jesus as the robin pulled the thorns from Christ’s Crown; c) the robin covered the dead with leaves, and as he was covering Jesus, he was touched by his blood. vincentoiseau 83 Posted April 19, 2020 Hi Sandor, another wonderful bird photo! I like the colors and composition and the little sparkle in the robin's eye. I also like your title with the reference to the legend about how the robin got his red-orange chest from a thorn he picked out of the head of Christ. There is another legend by the way, that tells the robin burnt his chest while it was keeping the fire going by flapping its wings, keeping the baby Jesus warm. Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment
