The hooded crow (Corvus cornix) is associated with fairies in the Scottish highlands and Ireland. In the 18th century, Scottish shepherds would make offerings to them to keep them from attacking sheep.

Thank you, Franz, for the kind note. Corvids are highly intelligent for animals of their size and are among the most intelligent birds. Crows and rooks, e.g., have demonstrated tool-making capability thought to be possessed only by humans and a few other mammals, mainly by primates. Kind regards, Sandor
