bernath 2 Posted February 3, 2020 The European goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) is native to Europe, North Africa and western Asia, and has been introduced to Australia, New Zealand and other areas including Uruguay. It was described and illustrated in the Historiae animalium of 1555 by Swiss naturalist Conrad Gessner. Link to comment

vincentoiseau 83 Posted February 3, 2020 Hi Sandor, wonderful portrait of this goldfinch, on what seems to be a hedge with some pieces of lichen on it (?) I like the feathers in the wind and the colors against the blurred background. I think this is a young male, but I'm always in doubt with goldfinches. Well done! Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment

bernath 2 Posted February 4, 2020 Thank you, Vincent, for the kind note. The bird is sitting on a mossy tree trunk with some snow on it. Judging from the intense red color on the face, I agree with you, it is a male. Best regards, Sandor Link to comment
