Giangiorgio Crisponi 454 Posted November 11, 2019 This pelican (Pelecanus onocrotalus) with feather photographed on a flowering tameric tree ( Tamarix ramosissima) is the only pelican present in Sardinia.Years ago a group of pelicans had the wrong migration route and they stopped in Sardinia for a few weeks where they are not present and then left, only one remained and it is difficult to photograph it. Nikod D500, f / 8, 1/1600 sec, ISO 160. Thanks for your comments Link to comment

tai 3 Posted November 11, 2019 Superb shot and bird, Giangiorgio! Wonderful frame, colors, light and details of plumage and tamarisk... I wonder how long have you been watching this bird? It is interesting how this pelican lives and with whom it communicates. Bravo! Sincerely, Tatiana Link to comment
Giangiorgio Crisponi 454 Posted November 11, 2019 Thank you Tatiana for your nice comment and for your interest in the behavior of this lonely pelican who loves to be in the company of herons and hunts for fish with them. This time I was lucky because it settled on this tree of Tamarisk about 50 meters from me and for about half an hour it cleaned and dried its feathers in the sun allowing me to photograph it in every pose Link to comment
vincentoiseau 83 Posted November 11, 2019 Hi Giangiorgio, the tale of this lonely Sardinian pelican gets better and better! I really like this image; it is sharp, beautifully composed, has amazing colors and a small element that subtly creates a sense of movement. Very well done, GG! Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment

michaellinder 16,611 Posted November 12, 2019 Perhaps, Giangiorgio, the pelican is longing for companionship and the feather serves as a reminder of its solitude. Your close shooting position, I suspect, is at least partially responsible for the extraordinary detail. Finally, the vegetation's colors complement the bird's very well. -- My best always, Michael -- Ciao! Link to comment
