Hi Jack,

 

there are three elements in this photo that immediately grab my attention: the pole in the center, the elderly woman on the right and her 'counterpart' the weathered pylon on the left. It looks almost like a recommendation not to go into this street/area, that, besides being pretty crowded with traffic, looks quite harmless. Maybe it's just a mood image I am making up too much about. I like the movement on the right opposed to the lack of movement on the left. Kind regards,Vincent

Another winner, Jack. Aside from the image's strengths Vincent addressed, I have some others. The pole, in my opinion, serves to frame everything to its right, especially the pedestrian. It also is flanked on both sides by the hint of an umbrella. There's a bold shadow in the bottom left, which serves double duty. First, it emphasizes the role of the pole, in this case, running parallel. Secondly, it, along with the dark foliage in the top left and the dark structures in the upper right, provides bold contrast. Finally, the quirk..... The woman is walking out of the frame, to where I can't fathom. Another favorite.
