Violet carpenter bee

Carpenter Bees are one of my favorite to photograph, Sandor. Wonderful colors, light, composition and presentation. Love the color of the wing and the position of the bee on the flower. A magical moment. Best regards, Paul.

Thank you, Paul. Technically, this series is the best I could ever take. I also like to photograph carpenter bees, but in most cases toss the photos. For such a dark subjects the light should be just right, which not too often occurs, at least when these bees are collecting nectar. You may be more lucky, though. Best,- Sandor

Thank you, Gregory and Verena, for your comment. Carpenter bees are species in the genus Xylocopa that includes about 500 bees. Their common name comes from their nesting behavior as they burrow into hard plant material, e.g., dead wood or bamboo. Best,- Sandor
