Aptly titled image, Jack. There's a rather interesting interaction between the umbrella's geometric forms and the much simpler design of the pedestrian's shirt. Indeed, the emphasis of geometry is supported by the relative absence of humanity. This is another fine example of your unerring ability to find photographic subjects and to make them your own. Yet another favorite!

Excellent geometry, Jack! Beautifully captured a lot of patterns of different scales. A striped lady with an umbrella seems to be a flower in the middle of the sidewalk. Bravo! Sincerely, Tatiana

Hi Jack,

a play of lines, shapes and colors which is one of your specialties. Your attention to detail and balance goes way beyond the patterns of the lady's umbrella and clothing, it's in the tiles and stones on which she walks, in the power lines that follow the lines on the road, the yellow lines that are horizontal, dotted and vertical, and maybe even in the instances of the color red (did you slightly boost it?). Kind regards, Vincent

Michael, Tatiana, Mariusz, Giangiorgio, Vincent - Thank you very much for your kind attention to this picture and your most interesting comments. I was on my bike when I spotted this woman with her hexagonally patterned umbrella and striped, black and white outfit. I followed her and took three or four shots as well as I could from my perch. I was lucky enough to catch her as she transitioned from the wavy block of pavement to the square one and that makes the picture for me. I think everything works together pretty well in this picture as Vincent noted. And after checking the original I find that I did indeed boost both the color and the contrast which in this case turned out well, I think.

Wow Jack: One of the most impressive and simply "photographic" photographs, if you catch my redundant drift. The myriad of lines is absolutely exquisite, a composition seldom seen. The center subject, in and by itself with the sidewalk is a jewel.... and then the bustling city encapsulates and makes the observer dizzy with activity. No wonder you can create juxtaposition and polarized at a most refined level. Much, much to learn from you Sensei. With my warmest regards and admiration, sincere congratulations. Honto neh. DG

Very nice presentation of lines, Jack. The umbrella really set it off from the rest of the image. Best regards, Paul.
