Wayne Melia 5,976 Posted August 28, 2019 It works. In defiance/ignorance of standard principles of composition, color harmony, etc. (correct me if I'm wrong), Except maybe to illustrate/define the irrelevence of said principles. "Content uber alles" ? The relationship between the two is the subject and the 'gesture', and it is clear because it is unencumbered by artifice. For those who missed it, it works. Link to comment
gregverena 339 Posted August 28, 2019 Wayne- thanks for your involved comment- while certainly am aware of the "thirds" and all that, I don 't necessarily follow it always- I wanted that empty space on the right to show the room that she had- and the idea of her sharing her ice cream with her pet (which she did) I thought was neat. This was at an event where ice cream (free) was the main event amongst many other art focuses. Link to comment
setsail728 14 Posted August 30, 2019 Heh! I was totally fixed on the dog and the little girl...just realizing that the dog will get whatever the little girl is holding, even if he “doesn’t” do what she wants him to do. Dogs can do that you know!! Rule of thirds, empty space... for this photo with such a strong subject I say, makes no difference! Link to comment
gregverena 339 Posted August 31, 2019 Warren-thanks for your considered comment- I am surprised no one mentioned that the girl was about to share her spoonful of ice cream with her dog- we love our dog, but not to the point of sharing utensils with him- I've seen where that mouth has been :) Link to comment
