Acanthus (bear's breeches)

I noted at the previously uploaded Acanthus flower that the shape of the Acanthus leaf inspired the ancient Greek sculptor Callimachus to model the crown of the Corinthian column. So, this is the leaf.

Thank you, Todd. In addition to being used as an ornamental element in ancient Greek and Roman architecture, later in Renaissance and Baroque architecture it also played a decorative role. In Christian arts, the acanthus leaf is a symbol of immortality, sometimes that of power. Best,- Sandor
