Hi Ken,

I hope that we've come across another often enough on PN for me to give you my honest personal feedback. OK, there's a lot of noise in the photo which to you is no surprise. I like the background but you obviously had an intention that doesn't come through to me in the photo. I like the man's step' but I only see a man carrying two shopping bags. Maybe it's a cultural thing. Whatever 'backstory' there is, doesn't come through to me through this photo.

Someone walking through a corridor carrying two shopping bags doesn't immediately suggest 'a story' to me.

Mike, I always welcome honest comments from fellow members, to me that's what the site is all about. Firstly the noise I purposely added in pp, all part of the "old photo" look I attempted to create, that and the dim lighting. The only story i tried to tell was that of a lonely old man. I followed him for a while and thought how lonely he looked and the fact he'd been shopping alone suggested to me he lived alone, so when he walked into the dark alley the image came to mind. Perhaps I should have called it "Lonely old man". Best regards Ken.

Ken, as soon as I opened the image full size, I read and understood Mike's comment about what he perceived as noise. Having produced similar images, I am confident that your response was sufficient. I too don't see noise; rather I see grain, which successfully gives the image the appearance that it was shot using film in a "classic" camera. This reminds me of shooting using a film SLR, specifically, using Tri-X Pan and pushing the ASA from 400 to 1600 expressly to get more grain in the resultant photos. As to the story, like beauty, it's in the eye of the beholder. To me, the image may yield a variety of stories based on whatever the viewer brings to the table. - - My best, michaes

So stark, frontal and powerful, impacting portray of some aspects of life in 2010. Magnificent use of grain.I am realizing that I am concluding this is a great documentary photograph!! DG

Hi Ken, This photo says a lot to me. There is a human story here maybe of a man who is trying to survive the best he can. The corridor, the puddle he is walking though, the light. Very moving for me.
