Wow, neat, how did he do that? What is it? Neat abstract anyway, like the colors.

just took a few pictures of this cloud and its shadow during a flight. the sun was setting at that time, so its casting a long shadow of this cloud over a layer of some sort of fog. we were at an altitude of about 36,000 feet. the different colors are produced by light reflected at different angles and dept by the fog.

I like a lot the effect you've captured, here. It is mind-boggling to see such sharp shadows from a fluffy foreground. The contrast of the two makes the shot.

 

In addition, the layering of cold and warm colours, give an additional rythm to the image from their contrasts, exactly as the sharp/blurred do for the cloud/shadow system.

It's not easy getting an effective shot out of a plane window but you've managed it here. There is a sense of approach, like a runway in the distance. I'd crop off a little from the bottom, just above the unlit cloud to reduce that slight distraction.

Thanks Salvatore, you've described it better than I could! and thanks for the suggestion Perry, I've cropped it off just a bit like you suggested. also adjusted the contrast and sharpness a bit. does look better now.
