mikemorrell 3,209 Posted January 12, 2019 Hi Gerald, you asked for 'critique' so here's my personal (intentionally positive, constructive) feedback. I'm a great admirerer of your portfolio and this location is without doubt interesting! My gut feeling is that if you had taken two separate photos of the 'left side' and the 'right side' they would individually have had more visual impact than this one. There are are lot of interesting details on the peripherey of this photo but there's little (except a central brick wall) binding them together. Perhaps you can crop? The effect the photo has on me is that my eyes continually circle round the details without ever coming to rest. This may be the effect you intended! The roof and door on the right lie outside my 'circle' so they probably don't get the attention that they deserve. In other words, for me, there are too many things in the photo. Seprate (or cropped) photos would make in easier to focus on the things that you want viewers to focus on. Hope this helps Mike y Link to comment
Gerald Cafferty 83,464 Posted January 12, 2019 Hi Mike, I cannot disagree with any of your comments. Your critique has pinpointed what I should have seen myself. The roof and door on the right are a subject I have visited before, one day I may get it right. Or maybe it's not as interesting as I thought it was, it is local so I will have another look...BR..GC. Jack McRitchie 150 Posted January 12, 2019 What struck me about this photo was the effect of massiveness resulting from the way you have composed this with just that small section of sky at the top. It gives the whole picture a sort of brooding intensity. Link to comment
